How can you devote more time to your patients than other physicians?
I have cut my operating expenses dramatically relative to a traditional office. I essentially have no staff, rent just two rooms, and have no paper medical records to maintain. Instead of seeing twenty to thirty patients a day to pay the bills, I only need to see ten to twelve.
Who performs all of the functions of a physician’s staff in your office?
I do. I have computerized and automated as many office functions as possible.
Why do you have monthly charges for patients not enrolled in your preferred insurance providers?
There are several reasons. First, it is simple, and without staff to send out bills, simplicity is important. This system also reduces over-utilization by encouraging open communication between myself and patients through multiple means, including phone and e-mail. I also believe it helps encourage patients to come in to the office when they really do need to be seen without worrying about paying a large fee.
Do have to be seen to obtain a specialty referral?
Not necessarily. You can call or email me and if it sound appropriate I’ll send the referral approval if required.
Do you have any future plans for your practice?
When I have enough patients I would like to start a diabetes group and a weight management group. At some point I would also like to hire a physician assistant or nurse practitioner so the office could consistently be open for patient care six days a week.
